Oaxaca Urban Sketching
Urban Sketching Mini Class
Bringing Oaxaca to your studio. Through this class, we will observe a new destination while learning new art techniques that you can use on the go. Whether you are traveling far or wanting to discover more about the city you live in, my hope is that you will build new techniques to capture your surroundings in your sketchbooks. We will work through contour sketches of buildings and architecture, capture the movement of people on the go, explore mixed media travel materials, study color theory by using complimentary or warm and cool colors in your work to build contrast and interest, and focus on the smaller details that make each city unique. I hope you join me on this next art adventure!
All our online courses are self-paced and can be accessed, downloaded and completed on your own time and at your own pace anytime after the access date. We recently introduced our mini classes as a way to practice your art in a shorter time and learn about specific techniques, mediums or subject matters. I heard often from our students that they were overwhelmed by the amount of classes available to them online. They couldn’t even get to the lessons they wanted as they took too much time. We know your time is valuable. We wanted to bridge this gap with these classes. It also allows me to teach more subject matters!
Through our layover-style mini classes, we will focus on a specific subject matter or medium while combining our love of art and adventure. These classes are intended to be short enough to be done on your “layover” or long lunch break (2-2.5 hours).

What is urban sketching?
Urban sketching can often be done onsite but doesn’t have to be. Through this class, we will bring Oaxaca home to our studios.
Art Supplies
I always include all the supplies that I use in our class for reference in case there is a new material you want to add to your studio. However, I want you to use the materials you have on hand and enjoy the most. I always recommend watching the lessons first and then deciding if you want to add a new medium into your practice.
